Our second discussion will be led by Marianne Espeland from the Pierce Lab. She writes: "There has recently been a lot of discussion on the effect of missing data in large data sets. And with the exception of a criticized paper by Lemmon et al. (2009) the general consensus seems to be that missing data is not a major problem. On Tuesday we will be discussing the paper below, which looks at missing data in a slightly different way, and discusses whether or not data are missing at random."
To kick off JC, Laura and Chris will lead a discussion on Solikas and Rokas (2013), "Inferring ancient divergences requires genes with strong phylogenetic signals." A phylogenetics experiment published in Nature-- it should be fun! See you at 1pm on Tuesday June 18 in the herbarium conference room (HUH 142).
